5 Reasons Why Being Known by Others Will Help You Grow

Take a moment and think about Sunday mornings. Not the part where you’re in a rush and wrestling the family into the car. Or when the Starbucks line is moving slowly and traffic is heavy. Think about the part when you’re finally there. When you walk into the church lobby and there’s someone waiting at the door with a smile and a welcome. When there’s fresh coffee and you didn’t miss the doughnuts, and just as the music is getting louder, you slip into your seat with a smile and a wave from those sitting around you. Worship with others is the best part of Sundays. So why not grow with others too?

There is so much more to living as a disciple of Jesus than just going to church on Sunday.  It’s worshiping AND serving AND growing! It’s understanding being a disciple is being a part of something so much bigger than us. It’s praying the Lord will stir our hearts to yearn for more because after all, we were created to be in community with others. It was never part of His plan for anyone to be alone. Even Jesus had His “tribe”!

Sound interesting? Take a look at a few more reasons why being in a small group community will help us grow in our faith walk.

  1. Build relationships. Everyone needs to feel known and loved. Joining a group of others who share commonalities creates a safe space for growing as a Believer.
  2. Sharpen and be sharpened. Proverbs 27:17 tells us, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Those who join a group not only grow in their faith, but help others grow as well.
  3. Go deeper. There is so much to know, and being part of a small group challenges us to know more.  It provides opportunities for questions and discussions, sharing and listening, and understanding in a new way.
  4. Pray for and with others. Standing in the gap for others and knowing you are being covered in prayer - there’s nothing like it.
  5. Be a part of something bigger. The Lord’s plan for us is a winding road of highs and lows.  It’s only when we know who God is that we can live the abundant life He promises us.  It’s worshiping, growing, and serving.

There are several types of groups on the Hill, and we would love to get you connected to live the words in 1 John 7,  “But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” Visit our Groups pages to learn more about the groups offered at Church on the Hill to help you grow in community.
