The Power of Belonging: Why Community Changes Everything

January 16, 2026 | Lyn Cantrell

We were never meant to do life alone.

From the very beginning, God designed us for connection—with Him and with one another. Yet in a world that is increasingly busy, digital, and fragmented, many people quietly carry loneliness, stress, and faith questions on their own. That’s where the power of belonging comes in. Community doesn’t just make life nicer—it changes everything.

Belonging Shapes Who We Become

When we belong, we are seen, known, and valued. True community reminds us that we are not defined by our failures, our titles, or our circumstances, but by who we are as children of God. In a healthy group, people celebrate wins, grieve losses, and walk together through every season.  Belonging creates space for growth. We learn from one another’s stories, wisdom, and perspectives. Faith becomes more than something we believe—it becomes something we live out together.

Belonging Strengthens Faith

Faith was never meant to be a solo journey. In community, we are encouraged when we feel weary and challenged when we become comfortable. Others help us see God at work when we might miss it on our own.  There is power in praying together, studying Scripture together, and asking honest questions in a safe space. Community keeps our faith active, grounded, and growing.

Belonging Creates Purpose

When people come together, something bigger than the individual begins to form. Gifts are shared. Needs are met. Lives are impacted. Community moves us from simply attending church to actively living out our faith together.  Belonging doesn’t just change us—it allows us to be part of changing others.

Your Next Step: Join a Group!

If you’re longing for connection, encouragement, and deeper faith, a group might be exactly what you need. You don’t have to have it all figured out. You don’t need to be an expert. You just need to show up.

We have a multitude of groups – weekday groups, Sunday groups, day groups, evening groups, men’s groups, and women’s groups.  We have short term groups, ongoing groups, and informal groups that meet monthly as an easy way to get connected.  For more information, visit our website at www.onthehill.life/grow/groups.

Take the step. Join a group. Find your people. Experience the power of belonging.

Gather and grow!
