Some moments in life don’t come as a single, dramatic calling.
They come as a steady stirring, one that grows through prayer, conversation, and a willingness to listen.

For Don and Donna Lott, stepping into Kids Ministry wasn’t something they had planned.
It was something they sensed God gently leading them toward.

A Personal Invitation

During Pastor Steve’s discipleship class, one phrase stayed with them:

“You are the method.”

Each week, they were challenged to pray and consider how God might be calling them to serve. But it was toward the end of the class, when the focus turned to investing in the next generation, that something shifted.

The invitation became personal.

As they listened, they both sensed the same quiet prompting from the Holy Spirit to step into something new and explore serving with children.

What followed wasn’t rushed. It was intentional. Through prayer and honest conversations, they discerned that this wasn’t just an idea; it was a calling.

So they reached out. And when the opportunity opened to serve with second and third graders, they stepped in with excitement.

A Shared Yes

There wasn’t one defining moment where everything changed.

Instead, it was a series of small nudges (words spoken in class, moments in prayer, and conversations along the way) that led them to a shared “yes.”

Even though they had served in children’s ministry before, this felt different.

This wasn’t just something familiar.
 It was something timely.

A “right now” invitation from God.

And practically, it made sense. They realized they could attend the 8:30 service and serve at 10:00, a rhythm that allowed them to worship and give back in the same morning.

What might have once felt unexpected quickly became an obvious next step.

Seeing Faith Through New Eyes

One of the most meaningful surprises has been what happens in the room each Sunday.

In just over an hour, they’ve watched children engage, learn, and absorb truth with excitement and openness.

“The children are eager,” they shared. “They take it in like little sponges.”

But it’s not just the kids who are being shaped.

The leadership and volunteer team has made a deep impression as well, their love for the children and their enthusiasm for Jesus creating an environment that is both joyful and impactful.

It’s a reminder that discipleship doesn’t have to be complicated to be powerful.

Strengthened Faith, Together

Serving in Kids Ministry has done more than fill a need; it’s strengthened their faith.

Being around children has brought them back to the simplicity of the Gospel.
A reminder of the grace of Jesus.
A renewed sense of wonder in what it means to follow Him.

And it’s deepened their life together as a couple.

They’ve found themselves praying more intentionally, not just for their own lives, but for the children they serve and their families. What started as a step into serving has become a shared spiritual rhythm.

They’ve also found something else: connection.

A sense of belonging among the team.
A feeling of being part of something meaningful.
A reminder that discipleship is lived out best in community.

A Right Now Kind of Calling

For Don and Donna, this step into Kids Ministry isn’t about trying something new for the sake of it.

It’s about responding to what God is doing right now.

It’s about listening when He speaks.
Trusting when He leads.
And saying yes even when the path looks different than expected.

Because sometimes, the most meaningful impact doesn’t come from what we plan.

It comes from being willing to be the method and stepping into the places God is already at work.
